Crazy tournament. 11-seed VCU made it to the Final 4, and 8-seed Butler beat them to reach the finals again.

4-seed Kentucky lost to 3-seed UConn on the opposite side, and Kemba Walker led UConn to victory over Butler. 3 v 8 in the finals. We haven't seen 2 low seeds like this in the finals in a long, long time.

Based on the seeds, there were 7 upsets in the first round, and 5 in the 2nd. The biggest shockers were:

Butler's rolloercoaster win over Pitt
VCU taking down both Georgetown AND Purdue
Morehead St. over Louisville
Richmond over Vanderbilt
Then maybe Marquette over Syracuse and Zags over Johnnies

The SW region is decimated. 1, 10, 11, and 12 seeds remain
SE would have 1-4 if Pitt had taken care of business
Texas and Syracuse losses paved the way for 5-seed Zona and 11-seeded Marquette.

Who Am I?

Jared 'eat fresh' Sullinger. 6-9, 280 pound Freshman who will surely be a lottery pick if he enters the NBA draft.

Kyle Singler. Duke Senior from Medford, Oregon.

Kyle Singler again.

Kyrie Irving. Freshman sensation for the Dukies. Missed most the year with an injury, but been playing well in the tournament. Would probably be a lottery pick if he goes pro.

Kyrie Irving 2.

Derrick Williams could possibly be the top pick in the NBA draft.

This isn't it, but Williams had a sweet tomohawk jam off a rebound in the 1st half against Duke.

Jimmer Fredette is in the running for NCAA player of the year.

So goes Kemba Walker, so goes UConn.

What's next? After trailing by only 4 at halftime, Tennessee was out-scored 42-16 in the 2nd half and lost by 30. With possible NCAA sanctions in the near future, Bruce Pearl's days with the Vols could be numbered. He's been their coach since 2005.

The Upsets

doink. Arizona knocked out the #1 seed Duke to reach the elite 8 (where they lost to eventual-champ UConn).

VCU knocked out USC in the qualifying round (I don't know why they call it the first round). Then they upset Georgetown and Purdue. Now this 11-seed gets to face FSU, a 10-seed with a tenacious DE.

Bradford Burgess had 23 in VCU's upset of Purdue.

10-seed FSU knocked out Texas A & M, then upset the Irish 71-57.

The year was 2006 when 11-seeded George Mason upset Michigan State, defending champ UNC, and top seed UConn on their way to the Final 4. This year they showed some of that magic knocking off Villanova in the first round, but they were then beat by Ohio State. Beat? More like whipped, slaughtered, throttled, hammered, crushed. 66-98.

Marquette upsetting Syracuse is not monumental, but because it was an 11-seed over a 3, this busted up quite a few brackets.

Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim looking constipated.

Demonte Harper of Morehead State sinks the winning shot against Louisville in one of the biggest 1st round upsets.

A fitting picture. Jeffery Taylor looks to be getting choked, which is what his Vanderbilt Commodores did in a 66-69 first round loss to the Richmond Spiders.

Zagnuts hammered the Johnnies 86-71 (but in their encore, BYU trounced 'em by 22)

Dejection Incorporated

Coach Rick Pitino after his Louisville Cardinals were upset by Morehead State in the first round.

3-seed Syracuse gets ousted by in-conference rival 11-seed Marquette. I haven't been able to find tear-jerkers the past couple years because most guys are covering it.

Georgetown's looking stunned, as they should after getting trounced by VCU 56-74. So much for VCU not deserving a place at the table.

San Diego State's Malcolm Thomas hides his tears after UConn bounces 'em from the tournamemt.

Khris Middleton walks off the court after his Aggies were eliminated by the Seminoles. Mild upset.
